MYSM class 2013 Top15 Rankings

Class: 2013 This is Metro Youth sports Media look at the top players in Minnesota in 2013 class. This years senior class is led by a group of D1 guards and a few seven footers. Many of these seniors have led their teams to great season and have had major impacts on the schools basketball program. This ranking will not include prep school players such as Cullen Russo, Akolda Manyang, Kyle Washington and Darrion Strong.

1)  Quinton Hooker PG 6'0 Park Center- The alpha dog of guards this season, Quinton dominated the competition on his way to the Minnesota high school state championship game. A scoring point guard with elite finishing explosiveness around the rim and body control around the rim. Averaging 23 points 6 assist 8.3 rebounds and 4 seals this season. More of a scorer then shooter Quinton is a play maker, attacks the rim and excels in open court. Quinton had offers from Florida Golf Coast, Wofford and Tulsa. Quinton will be having a major impact next year in the Big Sky Conference playing for North Dakota. 

2) Reggie Lynch C 6'9 Edina- Reggie has the most physical presence inside and defensive impact in this class. Lynch has a impact on every game by controlling the paint and not letting anything easy get to the rim. Reggie possesses superior upper body strength and is a natural shot blocker. Averaging 14.1 points 8.3 rebounds and 5.8 blocks this season while leading his team to the state tournament. Reggie has great upside and is a major recruiting score, on a full basketball scholarship for Illinois State where he will be having a inside presence from day one.

3) Riley Derring SG 6'5 Minnetoka- Skilled shooter with solid athleticism and deep shooting range. Riley is the highest caliber player in this class and  has been on the national radar since the 8th grade. Averaging 20.4 points this season Riley can score on all levels and can heat up for the outside. Riley will have to bulk up to play in the Big 10. Riley will be playing basketball next year at the University of Wisconsin on a full basketball scholarship.

4) Carson Shanks C 7'0 Prior Lake - Carson has the most upside and potential of the 2013 Minnesota prospects. His size and frame is something you can't teach and with the chance that he will be a better collegiate player then high school player Carson's one of players that might be able to play on a professional level from this class. Averaging 10.0 points 7.0 rebounds this season and most likely will produce at same level next year with little drop off. Carson will attend Utah State on a full basketball scholarship.

5) Graham Wooddward PG 6'0 Edina-A scoring point guard with excellent body control around the rim. Graham is a stud and one most prolific scorers in Minnesota this year. Averaging 26.7 points while leading his team to a break out and state tournament appearance. Graham is a elite scorer, but lacks the athleticism and strength to produce early. Will have to wait a year or two before having a impact but will play in the Big 10 at Penn State on a full basketball scholarship.

6) Ben Oberfeld PF 6'9 Eastview -Pure post player, physical inside presents with solid basketball IQ. Averaging 17.3 points 10.1 rebounds this season. Ben has size, strength and plays aggressiveness, with a understanding of his strengths. Should have a role off the bench next season and have a solid collegiate career. Ben will be playing next year for Bucknell University on a basketball scholarship.

7) Anders Broman SG 6'2 Lakeview Christian- The most prolific scorer in Minnesota high school basketball history with over 5,000 career points. Anders is a special player and has scored on a unrealistic pace since starting his high school career . A scorer and a shooter  that  can score from anywhere on the court. Averaging 41 points 8.1 rebounds and 5.0 steals this season.  Has a solid overall guard skill set, excels in a high speed game. Anders should play a role next season, received full scholarship to play basketball South Dakota University. 


8) Joe Aase PF 6'8 Austin- Versatile, stretch forward with solid athleticism and range from deep. Averaging 18.0 points 7.7 rebounds this season and led his team to a undefeated regular season and the 3A state finals. Should have a solid collegiate career but will have to wait for a while to have a major role and impact for his program. Will be playing for Davidson University on a full basketball scholarship.

9) Quashingm Smith-Pugh SG 6'3 St.Paul Johnson - Explosiveness around the rim excels at turning defense to offense and has excellent wing guard package. Averaging 19.9 points 8.1 rebounds and 3.5 steals this season Quashingm led his team to the state tournament this season. Solid overall game his skill set will translate to the next level. Quashingm will be a steal for whatever program he commits to with interest from several programs. 

10) Micheal Miller- PG 6'3 Metro Tech- Miller is a stud and great athlete.Miller has a high caliber physical  and skill set. Size, strength, athleticism and wing span. Averaging 19.7 points 11.3 rebounds while being the primary defense focus.solid ball handling and play making ability. The ability to score from all 3 levels, slashing to the rim and finishing in traffic with range from beyond the arc. Receiving interest from several D1 programs such as Troy Alabama and University of Texas El Paso. Ha s some D2 offers from Lincon Jefferson City Missouri and New Mexico Highlands. Miller should play a role for day one at the program he chooses.

11)  Connor Voss C 7'0 St.Cloud Cathedral- Skilled big man with solid athleticism. Not a pure post player, has the size to have and inside presence also possesses solid perimeter ability. Averaging 8.3 points this season, there will not be much drop off next season. Connor has a good upside and could have a major impact in his upper class years collegiate. Connor's skill set will translate to  production at the next level. Connor will playing in the Ivy League for Columbia on academic scholarship.

12) Garrison Gillard 6'2 PG Maranatha- The most handcuff player this season and one of the most under rated players in the class. Forced to play out of position this season he still displayed his play making ability averaging 15.2 points, 3.6 assist this season. Garrison has high caliber guard skill set and the ability to penetrate the defense off the dribble and stretch the floor from the perimeter with a solid basketball IQ. Should have a good impact for day one and will be one of the best players in the conference. Garrison will be attending Minnesota - Duluth on a basketball scholarship.

13)  Nuni Omot SF 6'7 Mahtomedi-  Great wing span and agility, D1 athleticism with size. Nuni was not the featured player in his teams offense and did not reap the benefits of having plays ran for him. Nuni is a gem, should have a great collegiate career with the possibility of playing professionally. Solid overall wing and perimeter skill set with ton of upside. Nuni is undecided on where he will be attending school at next year. 

14) Logan Doyle PF 6'8 Alexandria- Versatile post forward with great upper body strength and finishing around the rim. skilled in the post with solid athleticism. Logan plays the way a big should dominating on the glass and controlling the paint. Averaging 16.0 points and 14 rebounds this season. Should have a solid collegiate career and play some kind of role this season. Logan will be attending South Dakota State University on a full basketball scholarship. 

15)  Aaron Lien SF/SG 6'5 Morehead- Solid athleticism and wing skill set.  Aaron has the ability to affect the game in many ways, versatile defender and scorer. Averaging 22.0 points 6.2 rebounds this season. Should have a very productive collegiate career and have impact from day one. Aaron will be playing at Morehead State next year on a basketball scholarship .

This game will be a rematch of this only game that Apple Valley has lost this season. This game features two of top guards in Minnesota Quinton Hooker and Tyus Jones. These two high scoring fast pace teams looking   to run and fill up the score board.

Game Review This game was high pace and intense both teams left it all on the court, but only win team can bring home the Championship trophy. Park Center and Apple Valley both played the same style of game, Apple Valley made 23/28 FT 82%, while Park Center made 17/31 FT 54.8%. Tyus Jones made 18/18 and took the game over with his play making ability on both sides of the ball. This game was even in many ways with Apple Valley turning it over 15 times to Park Center's 16 turn overs.

Apple Valley Apple Valley was just on their own level for this Championship game. Their was no way Apple Valley was not going home a champion. Tyus Jones 28pts 5ast set the pace for this game playing aggressiveness and leadership. Apple Valley out scored Park Center 12-2 in fast beak points. Dennis Austin 15pts 15reb 3ast 2stl had a major impact on this game. Brock Bertram 8pts 9reb 5blk was a post presence offensively and defensively. Dustin Fronk 14pts 3ast and Harry Sonie 5pts 2ast 2stl had solid games to help get their team the win. 

Park Center Park Center came with their B game against and team playing their A+ game. This was overall solid team performance but was not the kinda game they needed to beat Apple Valley Tonight. Quiton Hooker gave his best to lead his team to this championship. Treyton Daniels 10pts 5reb and Devin Buckley 15pts 4reb did their part to try to win. Isaiah McKay 5pts, Issac Matthews 2pts 4reb 3blk, and Joshua Matthews 5pts 4reb where needed to do more to get this Championship. Park Center overall played a competitive game, but needed a great game to get the one.

Two teams enjoying breakout seasons for their programs as they will compete to make a run to the State finals.This game features a match up of two of states top points guards facing off Quinton Hooker and Graham Woodward. Both teams come in wanting to run and play a high scoring game.

Game Review Park Center and Edina both played their style of game. Park Center Athletes and depth was the major difference in this game. Park Center was able to put together big runs that Edina was not able to answer. Edina shot 16.7 % from deep and shot 43.8 % from the free throw line in the second half. Park Center brought their A game and ran away with this one.

Park Center Park Center had a balance scoring attack. Isiah McKay 16pts in the first half and Devin Buckley 13pts 11reb 5ast in second half, both had major impacts and took over giving Park Center big time scoring. Quinton Hooker 14pts 7ast pushed the pace of the game and locked up Graham Woodward in the second half. Treyton Daniel 12pts 3reb 2blk made big plays on both sides of the ball.This was a complete team effort on both sides of the ball holding Edina to 22.8% shooting in the game. Park Center turned defense into offense and spred

Edina Edina did not have a bad game as much as they were out matched at their own game.Graham Woodward did his share in the first half with 12 points but could not carry his team in the second finishing 5/19 from the field. Reggie Lynch did as much as he could with his foul trouble but had a major impact in the minutes that he played. Mark Handberg 7pts 12reb, Dane Teuteberg 4pts 9reb and Ben Boone 6pts shot 3/24 and really gave Edina no chance to win without production from their key role players.

Park Center vs Cooper Sections

#2 Park Center (24-3) vs #12 Cooper (22-5) 

One one the most anticipated games of the post season as one the nations best players in the class 2014 Rashad Vaughn faces one the top teams in the state with senior leader Quinton Hooker. Cooper is on a 18 game winning steak and upset Park Center in last years sections. The winner of the game should make a deep run into State.

Game Review This was one of the most competitive games of this years sections as both teams battled and brought their A game. Park Center is on a mission leaving it all on the court with the big time win to move to the 4A section 5 finals. Park Center has played at a high level all season and was able defeat a Cooper team that had plans of going

Park Center Park Canter played a complete game all out for 36 minutes. Park Center played a blanced game with 3 players scoring in double figures. Quinton Hooker 22pts proved that he was up to the challenge, leading his team to victory. Treyton Daniels 16pts had a major impact on this game on both sides of the ball. Devin Buckley 13pts was on point in the second half getting to the rim and big shots from the perimeter. The role players that Park Center are as good some teams best players.

Cooper Cooper played a solid game, their core role players did not make the big plays down the strech to close the win. Rashad Vaughn 37pts 17reb played at like All-American but his team fail short of the win. Lavar McCullough 14pts had a sodid game, Cooper needed him.

This match up is of  2 of the top programs this season, in a regular ending none-conference game. This game features to of the top players in the 2013 class Minnetoka's Riley Dearring and Parker Centers Quinton Hooker. Both team are looking forward to making runs is this years State Tournament with senior led teams.

Game Review This was a good game to have a scheduled at the end of the season for fans of Minnesota high school basketball. Minnetonka came out a sit a physical tone of game that Park Center played into. Park Center has proved to be one of the best teams in the state this year,but Minnetonka can beat any team on  their home court. This game was very competitive and had the feeling of a section game.     

Minnetonka Minnetonka can beat anybody on their home court. Riley Derring 26pts really played to win a was very aggressive with 20 pts second half second half. Minnetoka played all 12 of their varsity players and 9 of the scoring. Malcolm Moore 15pts had a complete game and big part of the win Minnetoka has wins over some of the top teams this season including Cooper, Hopkins and now Park Center. This game was won on defense as Minnetoka got the stops they needed to close the game.

Park Center Park Center played a solid game, but they where not on their a game in a place that gave them not favors with the whistle. Park Center could have beat 90% of teams this season with their play in this game, but not Minnetoka. This was a balance scoring game with 4 players in double digits, Devin Buckley 16pts and Isaiah Mckay 12pts. The injury to Treyton Daniels 13pts had a big impact as he would not play at 100% the rest of the game. Quinton Hooker 23pts had a solid performance and had some calls go against him down the stretch that would have won Park Center the game.
