Metro Youth Sports Media Top 15 player Minnesota class 2014 Rankings


Class: 2014 The Super class for Minnesota basketball recruiting D-1 players at all phases of the game. This class features 2 of the best player in the nation in the class of 2014. Also a host of athletes and playmakers.

1) Tyus Jones  PG  6’2 Apple Valley – Cerebral  uncanny player with unparalleled playmaking ability. Can score at will averaging 28.7 points this and scored 30 plus 11 times this season. Makes his team better an always under control. 5 star recruit has several major offers Duke, Arizona, Michigan State, the #1 point guard in nation in the class.

2) Rashad Vaughn SF/SG 6’6 Robindale Cooper – Absolute stud complete package, athleticism, size, physical tools and skill. Dynamic scorer finishing above the rim in traffic and elite elevation an rage on jumper. One of most imposing offensive skill sets in the nation, averaging 25.9 points this season. Stock still on the rise nationally, 5 star recruit has several major offers Arizona state, Kansas, Baylor.

3) Ian Theisen  C  6’9  Osseo – A skilled post player with shooting rage to about 14 feet. Great body control and good energy, can finish with both hands around the rim and in traffic. Works well with in the offense and can pass out of double’s in the post  to the open player. A high caliber player led his team to a 4A state title an is drawing interest from major programs.

4) Reid Travis  PF/C  6’6  De La Salle – Smooth, athletic, powerful, very versatile. A dominate post player finishes over, on, around and threw other front court players with contact. Runs the floor very well on both sides of the ball, averaged 20.4 points, 11.5 rebounds and led his team to a 3A a state title this season. With all the physical tools stock still rising, with a few D1 offers.

5)  Ryan Holthusen  G  5’10 Red Lake-  A dynamic scorer, capitalizes on defenses mistakes, works well without the ball to get to his spots, average 25.9 3.5 assist 2.4 rebounds, led his team to 18 wins 14 more then the year before,  smart with the ball and has sgood playmaking ability..

6) John Veil  PG 6’0  Blake- Smooth, cerebral , good basketball IQ, and playmaking ability. Has good leadership, averaged 12.3 7.0 assist  4.0 steals 3.0 rebounds this season and led his team to a 24-4 record. Crafty on both sides of the ball, hides when he’s playing the passing lanes and looks of defenders when passing. Has the ability take over a game with his playmaking.  

7) Jordan Dembley   PG 6’1 Holy Angles – High caliber point guard skills, solid court vision ball handling and playmaking ability. Averaged 13.4 points 4.1 assist 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 seals this season. Can make plays off the dribble drive, pushes the ball up court and uses the pick & roll well. Needs to become a more dynamic playmaker to make his team better but has all the tools.

8) ) Andre Wallace PG/SG  6’0- Eden Prairie- Elite speed and quickness, led his team in scoring averaging 14.2 points this season. Complete guard packaged, can run the offense an pushes the ball up court well, thrives at find his shot and other in the open court. Needs to play more under control and could have a more solid basketball IQ. Has the ability to collapse the defense off the dribble and can make plays for others around the rim and on the perimeter.

9)  Dejon Davis SF/SG  6’3  Washburn- Dynamic athlete with all the physical tools. Has the complete wing package, aggressive in the open court able to finish in traffic above the rim. Has solid perimeter shooting skills, an the explosiveness and upper body strength to drive and finish in the half court. Can guard multiple positions and one of the best perimeter defenders in the class.

10) Jon Sobaski  PG 6’0  Prior Lake- One of the best pure point guards in the state. Makes his team better an also led his team in scoring averaging 13.0 on a team with a D1 center inside this season. Works well with out the ball and rarely rushes his shot. Scored in double digits 21/27 games this season, Jon never lets his team lose to a team that they should be and is a competitor.

11) Isaiah McKay G  5’8 Park Center- Speedy, crafty, elusive, really good shooter averaged 15.0 points this season. Scored in double figures in 23 of 26 games this season, along side another guard who averaged 26.0 points this season. Has the ability to find the open space in half court and on the break behind the arc. Solid guard skills with some playmaking ability.

12) Jake Wright SG/SF  6’3  Hopkins- High basketball IQ, works well without the ball.  Works in the offense, spaces and runs the courts well.  Elite spot up, deep rage and clutch shooter. Can be a liability on defense against aggressive wing athletes and ball movement. Can be A high caliber player with the understanding what his weakness and strengths.

13) Delshon Strickland  SF/SG 6’2  Holy Angles- Versatile bouncy  athlete, has solid guard and wing skill set. Thrives at scoring in the open court and finishing on fast breaks. Needs to be more physical on defense and more aggressive on offense. Has some perimeter shooting skills and plays both sides of the ball.

14) Kamli Chambers PG  5’10  Hopkins- High energy player, aggressive on both sides of the ball. Solid ball handling and court vision, works well in the offense. Pushes the ball up court, can run the offense and finds the open man. Has solid playmaking ability and basketball IQ.

15) Isaac Mattews  C/PF 6’6 Park Center- Great athlete, runs the floor well on both sides of the ball with good energy. Intense defender in the paint effecting any thing that comes inside with good instincts. A good rebounder that get the ball up court fast . Still very raw offensively averaging 6.6 points but can finish on the break and above the rim. Needs to play more under control on both side of the ball.

This is Metro Youth Sports Media look at this years top players Minnesota 2013 class. This class has great size , athleticism at the wings and a group of guards with different playing syles.


1) Kyle Washington  PF 6’9 Hotchkiss CT – (lives in Champlin Park) A lean athletic wing forward who plays in the NEPSAC one of the top prep leagues on the east coast, need some upper body strength, has solid slashing and driving skills an ability to take other front court players of the dribble and can finish above the rim.  4 star recruit has several high major offers

2) Akolda Manyang  C 7’0 Duluth East – Long lean athlete imposing size, impacts the game on both sides of the court , has good energy for a 7 footer, can finish around the rim over other front court players, has the ability to pass out the post  and play with in the  offense, still very raw only played in a few games this season but has unlimited potential.

3) Reggie Lynch C 6’9 Edina – High energy post player with ability to create his own shot in the post, runs the floor well an can finish above the rim in traffic, very competitive a dominate rebounder takes it off the rim and out of his area, perfect skill set for a D1 power forward.  

4) Darrion Strong  PG 6’0 Tartan- Scoring point guard with elite speed ,ball handling and change of direction, can run the offense pushes the ball up court well an thrives at find his shot and other in the open court, right hand dominate has good upper body strength and can finish in traffic, the #1 rake point guard in the class on ESPN’s recruiting data base.

5) Anders Broman  SG  6’1 Lakeview Christian Academy – The most prolific scorer in the class, averaging 45.4 points 7.9 rebounds 6.7 assist  3.9 seals 61% FG, elite competitor an mid-rage jump shooter contested or uncontested off screens, in traffic , off head-fake’s and in the open court  with elite scores instincts, not the best athlete or defender, but is a good leader an winner leading his to the state tournament this year.  

6) Reiley Dearing  SF/SG 6’5 Minnetonka – A complete wing player, has good basketball IQ, athletically dynamic elite body control with the ability to create space off dribble an finish above the rim in traffic, sometimes not aggressive enough averaged 14.8 points this season an plays with in the offense witch limited his production, very high caliber player.

7) Aaron Lien  SG/SF 6’4 Moorhead – A lefty leader pure shooter with good instincts, a solid athlete, works well with out the ball, is a streaky scorer who is competitive on both sides of the ball, has solid ball handling skills and can run the offense with some playmaking ability,

 8) Carson Shanks  C 7’1  Prior Lake – A  strong pure post player who plays with in the offense, has  good physical tools and size, works well in the zone moving side to side in the post covering space, has good touch around the rim but still developing post moves, has a lot of upside. Committed to Utah State

9) Graham Woodard  PG  6’0  Edina -  A high IQ aggressive pure point guard, makes others better and capitalizes on defenses mistakes average 20.5 points a game this season an led his team to a breakout season, runs the offense and controls the pace of the game well.


10) Jonah Eisenschenk  G/F/C  6’5 Rocori- The most versatile player in this class, has good basketball IQ and instincts, skilled left handed a very good shooter averaged 17.5 points 6.5 rebounds this season, can effect the game without the ball an is a competitor.


11) Jamal Davis SF/SG 6’4  Hopkins – Dynamic athlete with energy, has solid ball handling and driving skills, spaces and runs the courts well, needs more shooting and assertiveness consistency, a high caliber player, plays best in the open court can finish above the rim.    


12)  Quinton Hooker PG  6’0  Park Center – A  hard nose bully, elite use of change of speed a competitor, can take over the game averaged 26,0 points a game this season excels in turning defense to offense, has playmaking ability but needs better court vision to get the most of his talented team,  has good shooting rage but more a volume shooter.


13)  Logan Brown PG 6’0 Roseville- Complete player competitive, leader makes his team better, plays under control with good instincts, average 14.2 points this season, lets the game come to him, a clutch shooter, led his team to a breakout season this year, has the ability take over a game with his playmaking and deep shooting rage.


14) Darius Hill  SG  6’2  Henry-  Crafty scorer, elite body control when finishing around the rim, gets great elevation on his jumper, can beat his defender of the dribble an dynamic off the bounce, finishes in traffic an led 3A is scoring averaging 25.5 points this season.


15) Renard Suggs G 6’2 Woodbury – Athletic with solid point guard skills, averaged 13.4 points this season, finishes in traffic an pushes the ball up court well , plays with in the game and runs the offense rarely rushing, a streaky scorer that is a good shooter from behind the arc.

1) Marcus Marshall  PG/SG  6’2  St. Paul Johnson – Scoring point guard ,with the ability to always beat his defender off the dribble and collapse the defense, Splits doubles on the norm, elite finisher in traffic and above the rim, has rage from deep but more off a scorer then shooter.  Committed to University of Missouri State

2) Isaiah Zierden  SG  6’3  Benilde St. Margaret’s- Really high basketball IQ, a playmaker who knows how to get his shot off in the offense and make plays for others, can create off the dribble, gets to his spots, timely shot maker who stretches the defense and a good team player. Committed to the University of Creighton 

3) Siyani Chambers PG 6’0 Hopkins- 2012 Minnesota Mr. Basketball  Leadership by example playing with 100% effort Siyani set the tone for a Hopkins Program that dominated Minnesota High school basketball while he played there(122-5) 3 state titles, plays with in the offense a pass first point an sets aggressive pace on the defense. Committed to the University of Harvard 

4) Johnny Woodard SG 6’4 Duluth East – Physically imposing and athletically dynamic, plays above the rim an able to finish with contact, a versatile guard that defends and rebounds averaging 23.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 2011-12 season has rage but more a volume shooter. College Undecided      

5) Joey King  SF/PF  6’9 Eastview – A wiry skilled and versatile wing big, can score from anywhere on the floor, not able to create off the dribble, but  has good ball handling on the perimeter and able to find his shot with rage beyond the arc, good court vision and also is a playmaker who can pass out the double teams. 6) Sanjay Lumpkin  SF/ PF 6’7  Benilde St. Margaret’s – Smooth energetic athletic forward thrives in the open court with the ability to take other front court players of the dribble and create mismatches also has spot up shooting skills, can find other players when driving, an a good free throw shooter making 80% from the line his senior season   Committed to Northwestern University 


7) Zach Stahl  F 6’6 Hopkins –  A complete forward , competitive, all ways finds the ball, smart player with good instincts around the rim, plays with in the offense able to finish in traffic an on the fast break, a capable post an perimeter scorer and defender. Committed to Lehigh University  


8) Dwight Anderson SG 6’3 Washburn -  A intense defender can guard multiple positions, unselfish high energy complete player able to do a lot of things well, capable ball handler and shooter, moves well without the ball, works mostly with in the offense, a tone setter that specializes in turn defense to offense. 9) Ater Manyang  F  6’6 Rochester Century – Long lean versatile athlete with a good motor can impact the game with out the ball, guards multiple positions, strong and physical can finish plays in traffic above the rim,  needs others to create for him but a dynamic playmaker on both ends of the court average 22.2 points this year. 10) Tyler Flack  F 6’7 Lakeville North – A smart an competitive player with good instincts , solid ball handling and shooting skills on the on the perimeter, a good motor, works to get mismatches on offense posting smaller players and shooting when front court players don’t guard him on the outside. Committed to the University of South Dakota   

11) Nate Kratch  PF  6’6  Watertown-Mayer – A stretch forward with a quick release, moves around well without the ball an face up perimeter player, crafty when working to get open, gets to his spots an capable rebounder and defender, thrives in open court shooting situations, averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds 3 assist this year. Committed to the University of Santa Clara   

12) Taylor Stafford  PG 6’0 Duluth East-  Dynamic playmaker, scoring point guard with the vision an ability  to breakdown and collapse the defense off the dribble, averaged 23.7 points 6.2 rebounds 6.5 assists and 2.8 steals a game 2011-12 season can run the offense but is an elite one on one player.
