MYSM 2016 class Top 25 Rankings

Minnesota continues to produce high caliber prospects as the 2016 class has plenty of high major quality prospects. This class is already having a major impact as some of the top prospects have big roles on their respective teams. Minnesota's 2016 class showing great potential and along with great production. The 2016 has great potential lead by Amir Coffey, Steffon Mitchell, Amar Miller, Brock Bertram, Jamil Jackson and Reed Nikko.

1) Amir Coffey 6'7 SG Hopkins Pulley's EYBL

The top prospect in Minnesota's 2016 class and one of the elite shooting guard prospects nationally. Amir has all the physical attributes coaches seek in elite level wing prospects. Coffey has great play making ability,can run the offense like a point guard, the perimeter skill set of a high caliber shooting guard and the height and frame of an elite wing. Coffey's skill set, versatility and size equal elite upside. Coffey preformed at high level during the high school season helping lead Hopkins to the state tournament championship game. Coffey has been one of the elite 2016 prospects nationally during this spring showing great potential during the Nike EYBL circuit helping lead Howard Pulley to a Peach Jam appearance. 2) Brock Bertram 6'11 C Apple Valley Pulley's EYBL

The top post prospect from Minnesota's 2016 class and one rising post prospects in the class nationally.  Bertram runs the court well, finishes around the rim at a high rate, and knows his role as a post player. Bertram preformed at high level during the high school season helping lead Apple Valley to a record 27-2 record. Possesses many of the physical attributes needed to be a high major post prospect, Bertram has the size coaches seek out in prospects and you can't teach height. Bertram has been opening eyes with his solid contributions on Howard Pulley EYBL team this spring helping lead them to a Nike Peach Jam appearance. 3) Amar Miller 5'10 PG Minnetonka Pulley's 16's EYBL

The top point guard prospect in Minnesota's 2016 and raising point guard prospects nationally. Miller possesses the prototype point guard skill set, the ability to penetrate the defense off the dribble and consistently create for others as well as himself. Miller preformed at high level during the high school season for Minnetonka helping lead them to a record 19-9 record. Miller can create his own shot off the dribble, possesses deep shooting range and elite open court creativity as well as vision. Miller possesses all the attributes coaches seek out in point guard prospects. Mitchell is the most complete and versatile wing prospect from Minnesota's 2016 class. No hype needed Steffon Mitchell's game speaks for itself as one of the top prospects in the class. Mitchell is very cerebral, has elite basketball IQ, skilled in all phases of the game. Mitchell was one of the premier prospects during the high school season helping lead Shakopee to the state tournament semi finals. Mitchell can create his own shot around basket as well as slashing to basket from the perimeter, has solid perimeter shooting range and can finish around the rim at a high rate. Mitchell thrives at turning defense to offense, can defend his position on a high level and guard multiple positions. 5) Reed Nikko 6'9 PF Maple Grove Net Gain 17s

Reed has the most potential at the power forward position in Minnesota's 2016 class and has great overall upside.  Reed has a solid forward skill set, the ability to finish around the rim amongst other big bodies, solid rebounder and a defensive presence in the paint. Reed was solid throughout the high school season helping lead Mapple Grove to a very competitive season with a young team. Reed runs the court well for his size, is fundamentally sound and possesses many of the physical attributes needed to become a high major division 1 recruit.  Reed has continued to progress during this spring and has been gaining recruiting momentum throughout the spring. Reed holds a offer from North Dakota, South Dakota, Fairfield and has interest from but not limited to Wisconsin, Nebraska, Drake, Minnesota, Northwestern and UNI.




6) Jamil Jackson 6'5 SG/SF Minneapolis North Pulley's 16's EYBL

Jackson is the most explosive and one of most skilled wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Jackson possesses great athleticism, good perimeter shooting range and the ability to slash to the rim. Jackson has been making noise during this spring for Howard Pulley this spring with some big time performances, showing great production and potential. Jackson has a high caliber wing guard skill set, Jackson has the ability to play above the rim on both sides of the ball and great defensive versatility.  Jackson has great potential and possesses as much upside as prospect in the class.  Jackson is drawing interest from but not limited Purdue, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Purdue, North Dakota, Washington State, Oregon State and Penn State.




7) Micheal Hurt 6'6 F Rochester John Marshall D1 Minnesota

Hurt is one of the most skilled and top wing forward prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Hurt has a solid face up game with the ability to create space for his shot, completes on both sides of the ball and rebounds at good rate.  Hurt had a breakout out season during the 2014 high school season and was very productive for Rochester John Marshall.  Hurt has good athleticism, good midrange and deep range shooting range skill. Hurt has been gaining recruiting momentum throughout this spring drawing interest from but not limited to Princeton, Northeastern, Northwestern, Murray, Bucknell, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa and South Dakota State.





8) Tyler Johnson 6'1 G Minneapolis North D1 Minnesota 17's

Johnson is one of the top guard prospects and is the most explosive guard in Minnesota's 2016 class. Johnson possesses a high caliber combo guard skill set, the ability to take defenders off the dribble, create his own shot, and solid perimeter shooting range.  Johnson thrives in the open court attacking the basket slashing to the basket and finishing with contact.
Johnson possesses elite explosiveness in the open court and attacking the basket. Johnson is having a great spring playing D1 Minnesota 17's in the Adidas uprising circuit. Johnson is drawing interest from South Dakota, Drake, Iowa, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Stanford.




9) Luke Harris 6'8 F Northfield D1 Minnesota

Harris is one of the most complete front court and top front court prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Harris has great skill, with his ability to finish around the rim at a high level, shooting range from deep and is a productive rebounder. Harris had a phenomenal sophomore campaign showing great potential and production for Northfield during the 2014 high school. Harris is competitive, consistency produces in all phases of the game and has good basketball IQ. Harris possesses many of the attributes needed to become a division 1 recruit.  Harris has been preforming on a high level during this spring and should be primed to draw some major recruiting interest during the live recruiting period.




10) Dalante Peyton 6'3 SG St.Paul Academy Fury


Payton is one of the most complete and explosive guard prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Payton has a high caliber shooting guard skill set, the ability to create his own shot off the dribble solid perimeter shooting range and great athleticism. Payton had a spectacular sophomore campaign for St. Paul Academy helping lead them to a state tournament appearance during the 2014 high school. Payton thrives in the open court attacking the basket and defends his position on a high level. Payton is drawing interest from Northern Iowa, Augustana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska Omaha.






11) Patrick Dembley 6'1 PG Minneapolis North, Net Gain

Dembley is one of the most complete and top point guard prospect from Minnesota's 2016 class. Dembley has the prototype point guard skill set, possesses the ability to create opportunities for others in the open court as well collapse the defense in the half court off of dribble. Dembley had a excellent sophomore campaign during the 2014 high school season for Richfield showing great potential and production. Dembley has deep shooting range, high caliber finishing ability around the rim and can create his own shot. Dembley has been putting up some solid performances during this spring and continues to produce at high level for Net Gain. Dembley is drawing interest from but not limited to Colorado, Northern Colorado, Washington State, Northwestern, and DePaul.



12) Seth Coatta 6'3 SG Minnetoka Real Athletes 17's

Coatta is one the premier shooting guard prospects and the best pure shooter in Minnesota's 2016 class. Coatta has the prototype shooting guard skill set, high caliber perimeter shooting range,  the ability to get open using screens and picks. Coatta had a breakout sophomore campaign, was of most consistent, effective and efficient shooters throughout the 2014 high school season. Coatta has solid ball handling, athleticism and finishing around the rim. Coatta is having a solid spring campaign playing up for Real Athletics and drawing interest from North Dakota and Northern Iowa.





13) Steffon Musoke 6'4 SG/SF Rodgers Heat

Musoke is one of most versatile and skilled wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Musoke has a solid overall guard skill set, has great size and athleticism for the guard position. Musoke had a solid sophomore campaign for Rodgers during the 2014 season. Musoke has solid ball handling, play making ability, and perimeter shooting range. Musoke has the ability to play above the rim and guard multiple positions at a high level with his length and strength. Musoke continues to develop and transition to the guard position. Musk has great potential and solid upside, with work and developing more high caliber guard skill set, could open up major recruiting opportunities. Musoke is drawing interest from but not limited to South Dakota, Northern Iowa, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.



14) Cameron Kirksey 6'5 SF, Apple Valley, D1 Minnesota

Kirksey is one of the versatile and top wing forward
 wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Kirksey possesses great athleticism, explosiveness around the rim, can finish around the rim at a high rate. Kirksey played a solid role for Apple Valley during the 2014 high school season. Kirksey thrives in the open court running the court and attacking the basket. Kirksey possesses great wing span, can defend his position on a high level and guard multiple positions. Kirksey has the ability to play above the rim on both sides of the court and possesses good upside. Kirksey possesses many of the attributes needed to become a division 1 recruit. Kirksey is drawing interest from North Dakota State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Northern Colorado.



15) Austin Slater 6'8 F, Wayzata, Net Gain

Slater is of the most skilled and top forward prospect from Minnesota's 2016 class. Slater is a knock down shooter with solid overall forward skill set. Slater is skilled from the perimeter, has a high basketball IQ and plays with in the offense. Slater is a solid rebounder and finisher around the basket. Slater sat out of varsity games during the 2014 high school season due to transferring. Slater has solid athleticism, defensive presence and rebounding instincts. Slater high level during this spring and is drawing interest from but not limited to South Dakota and North Dakota.






16) Melvin Newbern 6'4 SG/SF, Armstrong, Net Gain

Newbern is of the most versatile and skilled wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class.  Newbern has solid overall guard skill set, has great size and athleticism for the guard position. Newbern had a solid  impact for Armstrong  during the 2014 season 20-5 record and a top 10 state ranking. Newbern is unselfish, plays with aggressiveness as well as physicality and plays at a high level on both sides of the court. Newbern can score from all 3 levels and can finish above the rim. Newbern continues to grow, progress and developing more of his guard skill. Newbern has great pedigree, upside and should be drawing interest from coaches during this spring live recruiting period. Newbern is drawing interest from but not limited to South Dakota and Northern Colorado.




17) Jake Dale 6'4 SF/SG, Mankato West, D1 Minnesota

Dale is one of most skilled and complete wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Dale is skilled offensively around the paint as well as crafty and competitive. Dale great sophomore campaign for Mankato West and was one of the premier prospects from the class during the 2014 high school season. Dale's continuous growth and development is noticeable as he becoming more of perimetor player. Dale is drawing interest from South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Nebraska Omaha, Bucknell, Lehigh and Northern Colorado.







18) Landon Kirkwood 6'3 G Brooklyn Center,  Pulley's 16's EYBL

Kirkwood is one of the most skilled and top guard prospects in Minnesota's 2016 class. Kirkwood has a high caliber combo guard skill set, solid court vision and creativity as well as the ability to create his own shot off the dribble. Kirkwood had a great sophomore campaign for PSA and Brooklyn Center during the 2014 high school season. Kirkwood has great athleticism, the ability to play above the rim and solid perimeter shooting range. Kirkwood has been preforming at during this spring showing great potential and drawing interest from but not limited North Dakota.





19) Tyler Peterson 6'3 G, Centennial, Pulley's EYBL 16's

Peterson is one of the most complete and skilled guard prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Peterson has a high caliber combo guard skill set, the ability to run the offense like a point guard and ability to get his own shot. Peterson had a excellent sophomore campaign,  played a major role for Centennial during the 2014 season. Peterson has great perimeter shooting range and can finish around the rim at a rate. Peterson has been gaining recruiting throughout the spring drawing interest from South Dakota, Northern Colorado, Yale, Harvard, Drake and San Diego.





20) Payton Brodry 6'1 G Minneapolis South, Phenom

Brodry is one of the most explosive and top guard prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Brodry has a solid overall guard skill set, explosiveness around the rim, the ability to slash from the perimeter off the bounce and finish around the rim at a high rate. Prodry has a excellent sophomore campaign, was one the top performers in Minneapolis City Conference during the 2014 high school season. Brodry plays like a undersized power forward, with his ability to compete in the paint on both sides of the court against bigger bodies. Brodry possesses solid perimeter shooting range, rebounds at a elite level for his size and defend his position at a high level.  Brodry has been gaining recruiting momentum throughout this spring playing for Phenom and should be primed to draw some major recruiting interest during the live recruiting period. Brodry is one of the premier running backs in the state and is being recruited for that.



21) Brain Lankford 6'1 G St.Paul Johnson, Net Gain

Lankford is one of the most explosive and top guard prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Lankford has great athleticism, lateral movement, quickness and the ability to be a lockdown defender. Lankford had a good sophomore campaign for Cretin Durham Hall, was competing at a high level before transferring, finishing the season on Johnson's junior varsity. Lankford has solid ball handling, play making and court vision. Lankford is as athletically gifted as any prospect in Minnesota's 2016 the class. Lankford has a well rounded combo guard skill set, and Lankford thrives in the open court, slashing to the rim and perpetrating the defense off of the dribble while finishing around the rim. Lankford is having a great spring campaign for Net Gain, drawing interest from North Dakota, Nebraska Omaha, and University of Mary Lankford is an elite running back prospect and should be recruited for that.



22) Kyle Cappard 6'4 G, Blain, Heat

Cappard is one of the most versatile and top guard prospects in Minnesota's 2016 class. Cappard has the ability to penetrate the defense, create shoots for others as well as himself off of the dribble. Cappard had a good sophomore campaign for Blain the box score won't show how Cappard's play making ability Impacted and improved the team during the 2014 high school season. Cappard plays with aggressiveness on both sides of the court, finishes around the rim at a high rate with contact. Cappard thrives at turning defense to offense and guards his position at a high level. Cappard is drawing interest from but not limited to Wisconsin Green Bay, Western Indiana and South Dakota State.




23) Sam Sustacek 6'6 PF Orono Fury

Sustacek is one of the most complete and skilled post forward prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Sustacek is fundamentally sound, finishes around the rim at a high rate, and knows his role. Sustacek has a great sophomore campaign for Orono, developing into a go to post player. Sustacek is competitive on both sides of the court, rebounds at a good rate for his position and has a solid defensive post presence. Sustacek is having a solid spring campaign for Fury and drawing interest from several college programs.






24) Jalen Brown 6'2 SG Cretin Derham Hall Pulley's 16's

Brown is one of the most skilled and complete wing prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Brown has great versatility on both sides of the court, the ability to finish around the rim at a high rate as well as guard other wing at a high level. Brown had a breakout sophomore campaign for Cretin Durham Hall before sitting out the rest of the 2014 high school season. Brown has a high caliber overall wing skill set, solid perimeter shooting and good athleticism. Brown has had some good performances during this spring for Howard Pulley drawing interest from Northern Iowa and Boise State.





25) Trenton Krueger 6'5 F St.Croix Lutheran Pulley's 16's EYBL

Krueger is one of the most complete and skilled forward prospects from Minnesota's 2016 class. Krueger has a complete offense forward skill set, the ability to create his own shot in the post, good midrange shooting skills and slash to the rim from 15 feet in finishing above the rim. Krueger had a breakout sophomore campaign for St. Croix Lutheran showing great potential and production during the 2014 high school season. Krueger defends and rebounds at a high level. Krueger is a high impact player on both sides of the court, plays with aggressiveness, plays with effectiveness and efficiency. Krueger is having a good spring campaign and should continue to build recruiting momentum throughout this summer, drawing interest from West Virginia Charleston.
