MYSM Top 5 freshman classes and impact player school changes 2013-14 season

Basketball season never stops, this time of the year MYSM is able to see what schools student athletes have moved to during the summer. This is also exciting time to see the top incoming freshman classes and what impact they could have  during the up coming season.

Top 5 Freshman classes in Minnesota class 2017

1) Mapple Grove- Mapple Grove is stacked for the future as this year's class of talented guard prospects, join the 2 Reed Nikko and Kayode Awosika from the 2016 class. The hype is around floor general point guard Brad Davidson who will play the biggest role this year for Maple Grove. Tyhwon Pickford an elite scorer and Jack Hutchinson one of the most talented shooters in the class, will give the Crimson real fire power in the future. Max McNellis who has great size and upside also will make future contributes. With 4 of the top 30 players in the class, there will be no looking back for Maple Grove.

2) Minneapolis North- Coach Larry McKenzie waste no time having a impact immediately bringing the most talented class to come to any Minneapolis public school in recent history.  North freshman class is loaded with skill and athleticism from the wing and guard positions. Isaac Johnson a top 10 2017 prospect will have a chance to play a major role from the jump. DJ Hunter one of the most complete and varsity ready players in the class will have a impact immediately. Jaquan Sanders a combo guard, Ahzerik Rodgers a speedy, scoring point guard will both will be able to contribute this season.North lands 4 of the top 30 freshman in the class, this is just of the beginning of rebuilding for the Polar program.

3) Minnehaha Academy- Minnehaha Academy lands a pair of top 10 prospects in Simeon Davis and Joevon Walker. Simeon has the most complete point guard skill set in the class and Joevon Walker the most dominate front court player in this class. This pair is special because each of them can dominate their position on the defensive end of the court. The future could not be brighter for the Red Hawks adding 2 four year starters.

4) Tartan- Tartan is winning with a dynamic trio from this freshman class. Jordan Horn one of the top combo guards in the class will provide scoring and have a impact immediately, Kingston Myles will play role, to form an elite guard combo for Tartan. Emanuel Humphrey is physically one of the most varsity ready players in the class, with his size and athleticism he will be having a major impact the next 4 year's. Tartan will have the plenty to look forward too with 3 of the top 30 freshman prospects in the class.

5) Champlin Park-  Champlin Park gets great group of prospects led by Theo John a high impact post presence and ultra quick PG McKinley Wright. Who might be the most under rated forward in the class Romello Adkins will join Theo, to form the best front court tandem in this class. Champlin Park has much to look forward to with as a talented class as any program with 3 of the top 30 prospects in the class

De La Salle- The rich get richer as one of the most sought out and anticipated freshman prospect Goanar Mar a high caliber forward is now an Islander. Goanar Mar has the size and athleticism to contribute to the islanders now, but he won't be playing much varsity this season. The future of De La Salle belongs to Goanar after this year.

Apple Valley- Gary Trent will be factor this coming season and for the next 4 year's. Trent will be one of the Eagles greatest scoring threats from day one this coming season. Trent could be the reason Apple Valley playing in 2015 and 2016 state championships.

Hopkins- Hopkins always has some of the metro's top talent coming from the Hopkins North and West middle school's. Ishmael El-Amin leads the Roays freshman class a skilled guard . Simon Wright a skilled shooter and Daryl May a athletic wing both are above average players and will make future contributes.

Cretin Durham Hall- No big time names just great depth and athleticism. Fontae OBannon, Damien Goergen, Markel Speed, and others all will make future contributes for the Raiders.

Minneapolis Southwest- Southwest lands one of the top front court players in the class and second best freshman in the Minneapolis City Conference. Should give Tom Weko something to build with in the future. Brennan Hawkins is high caliber forward, with a skill set that can contribute this season.

Wayzata- A solid group joins the program led by the Urke twins Daniel and Mathew two good front court players. A pair of solid guards Owen Chose and Gavin Baumgartner. This group will keep Wayzata competitive in the Lake Conference in coming season's.

Impact player School Changes

Delshon Strickland One of the top prospects in the 2014 class will be finishing his high school career at Minnetoka High. Delshon will start from day one, will give Minnetoka scoring, athleticism and chance of winning the Lake Conference this season. Minnetoka should be considering making a run into the state tournament this season.







Grantham Gillard One of the most handcuffed and underrated prospects in the 2015 class will join Eden Prairie. A skilled wing give the Eagles more fire power for another run at the state tournament. Grantham is coming off a state tournament championship appearance in witch he played a major role and made all Tournament Team.

Amar Miller The top PG in the 2016 class will be playing basketball for Tom Dasovich. Amar gives the Skippers creativity, a playmaker and a scoring threat from anywhere on court. Miller's ball handling and ability to stretch the defense from deep will make room for shooters.  The addition of Miller gives Tonka more fire power and a better chance of making a possible run at the state tournament these coming season's.





Randy Mathews Great size, wing span, agility and athleticism. Coach McKenzie gets what should be a very solid piece for the Minneapolis North Polar basketball program this coming season. With Mathews ability to run the court and play above the rim Randy will have a major impact providing the Polar's a inside presence on both sides of the ball.




Jamil Jackson One of the top SG prospects in the 2016 class. Coach Larry McKenzie lands a big piece of the transformation of the Minneapolis North Polar basketball program. Jackson will have a major impact this coming season as one of most dynamic scores in the 2016 class. Jackson should be on of the top players in the Minneapolis City Conference over the next 3 years.

Jordan Dembley One of the top PG prospects in the 2014 class joins Osseo for his final high school season. Dembley's prototype point guard skill set will give Osseo a chance to be championship contender this season. The combination of Wheeler Baker and Jordan Dembley will form this seasons top backcourt in the state.

Austin Slater Wayzata gains a big piece of their future after having a productive summer and solidifying his wing skill set. Slater will start from day one and will play a major role for Wayzata this season.
